Safety & participation
Footbiking is easy to learn and suitable for a wide range of people, but it is still an outdoor physical activity. These simple rules help us keep every team ride safe and enjoyable.
Before the ride
All participants receive a short introduction before riding, including how to start, stop, steer and use the brakes safely.
Participants must:
- follow all instructions given by Footbikes Australia staff
- wear the supplied helmet while riding
- wear suitable clothing and enclosed footwear
- advise us before the ride of any injury, medical condition or limitation that may affect safe participation
- be physically able to participate safely in the activity
If you are unsure whether the activity is suitable for you, please seek appropriate medical advice before participating.
During the ride
Participants must:
- ride safely and considerately
- follow applicable road and shared-path rules
- maintain a safe distance from other riders and path users
- ride at a pace appropriate to the group and conditions
- use the footbike and equipment only as instructed
- follow the ride leader's directions at all times
Participants may stop riding at any time if they feel uncomfortable or unable to continue.
Alcohol & drugs
Participants must not ride while under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or any substance that may impair judgement, coordination or safe riding.
We reserve the right to refuse or stop participation where we believe a participant is impaired or presents a safety risk.
Equipment
Footbikes and helmets are checked before each activity.
Participants are responsible for using the equipment appropriately and must report any damage, fault or accident immediately.
Deliberate misuse, reckless behaviour or damage caused by failure to follow instructions may result in the participant being responsible for repair or replacement costs.
Safety decisions
Footbikes Australia may modify the route, shorten or stop an activity, or prevent an individual from continuing if we believe conditions or behaviour create an unacceptable safety risk.
Safety decisions made by the ride leader must be followed.
Personal responsibility
Outdoor activities involve inherent risks, including falls, collisions, uneven surfaces, changing weather and interaction with other path or road users.
Participants are expected to take reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of others.
Before participating, each rider may be required to acknowledge and accept the applicable participant waiver and terms.
Emergencies & incidents
Any accident, injury, equipment problem or safety concern should be reported to the ride leader immediately.
In an emergency, participants must follow the instructions of Footbikes Australia staff and emergency services.
