Why footbiking works for teams

If you can walk, you can footbike

These are not kids' scooters. Big bicycle-size wheels, a low platform and a stable design make footbikes comfortable and easy for adults to ride.

And the movement already feels familiar. Most people have done it before — one foot on, one foot pushing — so it comes back quickly.

That means people with different ages, fitness levels and riding experience can enjoy the activity together, without anyone feeling left behind.

Common questions

The things everyone asks first

Do we need any experience?

No. That is the whole point of it. If you can walk, you can footbike — you push with one foot, coast, and swap feet when you get tired. There are no gears, nothing to clip into, and stepping off is always allowed.

Every experience starts with a short introduction and a few easy practice minutes before anyone rides anywhere. We have not yet had someone who could not ride by the end of that.

What if someone in our group is not fit?

They will be fine, and they will not be the one holding everyone up. Footbiking is low impact and self-paced: you can push hard or you can roll along, and the effort is spread across both legs rather than concentrated the way cycling is.

There is no saddle, so none of the discomfort that stops people enjoying a bike ride. Groups with a thirty-year age spread ride together comfortably.

We ride at a relaxed group pace with regular stops to regroup, so taking it easy means having company rather than an audience.

What should we wear?

Enclosed shoes — runners are ideal, thongs and heels are not — and comfortable clothes you can move in, suitable for the weather. You are standing up the whole time, so nothing needs to be cycling-specific.

A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen for anything between October and April, and a light layer if the weather is cooler. Bring a water bottle that fits a regular bicycle bottle holder.

What actually happens on the day?

We meet you at the start point with the footbikes set up and ready to go.

You get a short introduction, a bike sized to you and a fitted helmet. Then a few easy practice minutes until everyone is comfortable, which is usually sooner than they expect.

Then you ride together at a relaxed group pace, with regular stops to regroup, take photos and enjoy the views.

At the end there is time to relax and chat, and — if you have asked for it — a coffee, ice cream, brunch or lunch stop.

What happens if it rains?

Light rain is fine and honestly quite good fun. We ride in it.

If the forecast is genuinely bad — storms, heavy rain, extreme heat or a total fire ban affecting the route — we will call you the day before and reschedule at no cost. If it turns on the day and we have to stop early, you are not charged for the part you did not get.

We would rather move a booking than run a miserable one.
